I am currently working as an independent consultant. I was previously employed as Vice President and Regional Head Sustainable Development for Gold Fields, and have worked both in active mining operations and exploration projects. As an independent consultant my experience is varied and I have worked across the private, public, non-profit and academic sectors. In the extractive industry I not only worked with Gold Fields, but also with Newmont, AngloGold Ashanti, Golden Star Resources and Tullow Oil.
My experience is well-rounded in both academic research as well as on-the-ground implementation of projects. Over the past two decades I have also worked with universities, NGOs, central and local governments in various African countries, international agencies and international government agencies, such as the World Bank, EU, USAID, DFID, CIDA and SIDA. My experience was gained through work in Southern, West and East Africa, Peru and the Philippines.
My academic work continues through teaching specialized courses on invitation, and advising Masters and PhD students at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
I have written several peer-reviewed published documents on sustainable development and have presented papers at several conferences in Africa, Europe, the UK, the Middle East and New Zealand.
Conservation and sustainability lie very close to my heart, and I am proud to be a board member of the Leadership for Conservation in Africa (LCA) Ghana and a director of its Shai Hills Project, near Accra, Ghana.
